The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union hosted a lunchtime event, “Women in Diplomacy”, today, featuring special guest Professor Karen E. Smith from the London School of Economics (LSE). Professor Smith presented the LSE Report on its project findings and discussions, shedding light on the underrepresentation of women in international diplomacy.

According to the report, women hold a mere 20.54% of diplomatic positions in 2023, highlighting the need for continued dialogue to break down barriers and find solutions. The event brought together diplomats, academics, and professionals to engage in important discussions and exchange ideas on promoting gender equality and increasing the representation of women in diplomacy.

As a key player in the region, the Republic of Croatia is committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women in all aspects of society, including diplomacy. The “Women in Diplomacy” event is a step towards achieving this goal and fostering a more inclusive and equitable international diplomatic community.
