Press Release

The UAE Embassy and EU External Action Service hosted a panel discussion emphasizing cross-regional collaboration to advance the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, addressing the rising impact of conflict on women and girls worldwide.

Today, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates and the European Union External Action Service co-hosted a dynamic discussion on advancing the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. Bringing together policymakers, diplomats, and advocates, the session highlighted the critical role of cross-regional collaboration in addressing the needs of women and girls in conflict zones.

A sobering statistic set the stage: currently, 612 million women and girls live in conflict-affected areas—reflecting a 15% rise in recent years. Ambassador Stella Ronner-Grubacic, EU Ambassador for Diversity and Gender, underscored the need for resolute action, noting, “Change is achievable when our commitments are strong.”

The panel explored strategies to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1325, a landmark framework addressing women’s roles in peacebuilding and security efforts. Speakers acknowledged progress while calling attention to the work that remains to protect and empower women globally.

This event reaffirms the commitment of the UAE, the EU, and their partners to strengthening the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, promoting gender equality, and safeguarding the rights of women and girls in conflict regions. The conversation underlined the importance of continued cooperation to realize sustainable peace and security worldwide.
