Press Release

Ambassador Bazard attended an interactive dialogue hosted by the Embassy of South Africa, in collaboration with the WHO, emphasizing the need to strengthen global health diplomacy and address gender gaps in health research, with a focus on improving maternal, adolescent, and child health.

Ambassador Bazard attended an interactive dialogue hosted by the Embassy of South Africa, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), focused on enhancing women’s health and advancing universal health coverage. This engaging discussion sought to explore strategies for strengthening health diplomacy, particularly in addressing critical issues such as maternal care, adolescent health, and child health.

The dialogue underscored the need for intensified global efforts to close the significant gender gap in research funding and improve health outcomes for women. Diplomats were urged to champion women’s health rights through advocacy and diplomatic engagement. Highlighting The Bahamas’ leadership in this arena, the country’s efforts have led to a remarkable decrease in HIV mother-to-child transmission rates from 30% to under 1% since the 1990s.

As we move forward, the call to action is clear: as President Nelson Mandela profoundly stated, “We are in this globalised world each the keeper of our brother and sister. We have too often failed that moral calling.” The event marked a significant step toward fulfilling this moral responsibility, with an emphasis on continued collaboration and advocacy.
