Press Release
Ambassador Bazard engaged in meaningful discussions with Dr. Carla Barnett, Secretary-General of CARICOM, at COP29 Azerbaijan, reinforcing Caribbean-EU collaboration on shared priorities.
As COP29 in Azerbaijan draws to a close, a key highlight was the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue with Dr. Carla Barnett, PhD, CBE, Secretary General of CARICOM: Caribbean Community. In my capacity as Regional Coordinator, we delved into matters of mutual concern and importance, focusing on strategies to amplify the voice of the Caribbean on the global stage.
The Caribbean Group of Ambassadors (CGAB) in Brussels continues to work hand-in-hand with CARICOM, ensuring that the directives and initiatives of this critical regional organization are effectively represented in its relations with the European Union. Our discussion underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing pressing issues such as climate resilience, sustainable development, and equitable financing mechanisms.
This engagement reaffirms our collective commitment to the advancement of CARICOM’s mission and the strengthening of ties between the Caribbean region and global partners. COP29 provided a unique platform to highlight the challenges faced by small island developing states (SIDS) and to advocate for urgent action in climate and development policies.
As we conclude our activities in Azerbaijan, we look forward to translating these conversations into impactful actions that benefit the Caribbean and its people.
