OACPS Leaders Unite in Azerbaijan to Demand Urgent Global Climate Action

The OACPS issued a unified COP 29 Leaders Statement in Baku, Azerbaijan, calling for urgent global action to address climate challenges and promote a sustainable, equitable future.

The Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Ambassador Bazard declared its COP 29 Leaders Statement today in Baku, Azerbaijan, urging immediate global action to tackle critical climate and environmental issues.

The event featured notable leaders, including the Honourable Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Philip Edward Davis KC MP, Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji, Hon. Biman Prasad, and Suriname’s Minister of Spatial Planning and Environment, Hon. Marciano Dasai.

With 79 member states representing over 1.5 billion people, the OACPS emphasized the importance of safeguarding key ecosystems such as oceans, seaweed meadows, and tropical forests. The Leaders Statement called for unity in addressing global challenges, stating, “Our unity is our strength. Our collective action must speak louder than our individual interests.”

As custodians of critical natural resources, the OACPS reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a resilient and equitable future. The call to action highlighted the urgency of addressing climate issues and the responsibility of the international community to work collaboratively.

This declaration underscores the OACPS’s determination to drive meaningful change and inspire global leaders to prioritize a sustainable and inclusive future for generations to come.
