The 3rd Global Coordination Meeting for the EDF Intra-ACP Disaster Risk Reduction Programme, funded by the European Union, emphasized the crucial role of disaster risk reduction in combating climate change and featured a report on resilience projects in the Caribbean.
The Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) recently convened the 3rd Global Coordination Meeting for the EDF Intra-ACP Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Programme, a vital initiative funded by the European Union. The meeting underscored the urgent need for effective disaster risk management strategies in the face of climate change, an existential threat affecting future generations. ASG Cristelle Pratt emphasized that DRR extends beyond technical jargon, addressing long-term impacts on global communities.
Representatives from OACPS member states, including The Bahamas, participated actively, recognizing their dual role as both affected parties and catalysts for change. This meeting highlighted the commitment of member states to not only address the challenges posed by climate change but also to drive innovative solutions.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the presentation by Yves Robert Personna, PhD, a Fulbright Scholar from the Caribbean Development Bank. His report outlined ongoing work and proposed projects under the Caribbean Action for Resilience Enhancement Programme (CARE), showcasing regional efforts to enhance resilience and adaptability in the Caribbean.
The session was a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility and collaborative spirit necessary to tackle the global climate crisis effectively.
