Anabel González, IDB Vice-President, led discussions in Brussels on enhancing EU-Latin America-Caribbean partnerships, emphasizing climate action and innovative financing for sustainable development, co-sponsored by the Embassy of Panama and IDB Europe.
Anabel González, Vice-President for Countries of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), visited Brussels, leading an engaging discussion on “Strengthening a Strategic Partnership between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean: Opportunities for Collaboration”. The event, co-sponsored by the Embassy of Panama and the IDB office in Europe, brought together key stakeholders to explore areas of collaboration, including the IDB’s new program One Caribbean, investment, energy transition, the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, and climate change.
During the discussion, González emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. The IDB’s policy adjustments to consider the Multilateral Assessment and Validation Instrument (MVI) in the application process for concessionary financing by states were of particular interest to small island developing states (SIDS) and small island states. This innovative approach aims to support countries in adapting to climate change and fostering sustainable development.
