The Embassy of The Bahamas in Belgium concluded their 50th Independence celebrations with a vibrant cultural showcase at the Musical Instruments Museum, featuring a diverse display of Bahamian culture and a significant donation of instruments, fostering cultural exchange between the two nations.

The Embassy of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Mission to the European Union brought the vibrant festivities of the 50th Independence celebrations to a grand close at the Musical Instruments Museum (MIM) in Brussels. This event was a testament to Bahamian culture, featuring a display of sights, sounds, art, fabric, and the renowned Bahamian hospitality.

Highlighting 50 years of diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Belgium, the occasion immersed attendees in the passion of Junkanoo, showcasing the Bahamas’ national celebration with the rhythmic sounds of cowbells and goat skin drums.

During the event, the Embassy presented junkanoo and rake and scrape music instruments, enriching the collection of the Musical Instruments Museum. Gratitude was extended to the museum staff and Belgium’s Honorary Consul to The Bahamas, Etienne Claes, who joined the celebration, flying from The Bahamas to partake in the evening.

The gesture of donating several instruments to the Musical Instruments Museum marked a significant cultural exchange, fostering an appreciation for Bahamian heritage within Belgium’s rich cultural landscape.
