Czech Republic and North Macedonia Present Bids for OPCW Executive Council Representation

The Czech Republic and North Macedonia presented their candidacies for the OPCW Executive Council’s 2025-2027 term to Brussels-based ambassadors, aiming to represent the Eastern European Group.

As the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) prepares for the upcoming election of its Executive Council for the 2025-2027 term, the Czech Republic and the Republic of North Macedonia presented their candidacies for election to Ambassadors based in Brussels. Both countries aim to represent the Eastern European Group, emphasizing their commitment to the OPCW’s mission to eliminate chemical weapons and prevent their use globally.

Representatives from the Czech Republic and North Macedonia outlined their goals and priorities for the council term. Both countries underscored their longstanding dedication to upholding international standards and contributing to the global mission of chemical disarmament. Ambassadors in attendance had the opportunity to hear each nation’s vision for a safer world free of chemical weapons, including efforts to support capacity-building initiatives, compliance monitoring, and international cooperation.

The Czech Republic and North Macedonia both emphasized their readiness to collaborate with member states and play an active role on the Executive Council. This diplomatic engagement highlighted the importance of the OPCW’s work in fostering peace and security, with the candidate countries pledging to support ongoing initiatives to strengthen global chemical safety.
