Leadership Meeting at Belgian Embassy of the Republic of Madagascar Highlights Commitment to Address Climate Change and Maritime Security.

In a significant diplomatic encounter, esteemed representatives paid a courtesy call to the distinguished Ambassador of Madagascar, His Excellency Jean Omer Beriziky, hosted at the Belgian Embassy. Discussions focused on the critical impact of climate change on island nations and the shared concerns and resolute commitments of both nations to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) 13 (Climate Action) and 14 (Life Below Water).

H.E. Jean Omer Beriziky, a distinguished scholar, former Prime Minister, and seasoned diplomat, emphasised the urgency of addressing the detrimental effects of climate change. The meeting underscored the pressing need to mitigate the consequences of climate change on island communities.

Moreover, maritime security emerged as a critical focal point during the discussions. Both parties highlighted the significance of safeguarding maritime territories and enhancing security measures to tackle issues related to illegal fishing, piracy, and the protection of marine resources. The importance of international cooperation, information-sharing mechanisms, and the implementation of robust security frameworks to address these challenges was mutually emphasised.

The encounter reaffirmed the commitment to collaborative efforts and shared responsibilities among nations to address global challenges, reflecting a commitment to fostering sustainable solutions in both climate action and maritime security.
