Ambassador H.E. Cheryl Bazard engages in discussions on ocean governance and sustainability at the “Ocean Futures 2030” event, emphasizing the importance of science, diplomacy, and international cooperation in addressing marine challenges.
Ambassador H.E. Cheryl Bazard attended the “Ocean Futures 2030: Science and Diplomacy for Ocean Governance – Our Common Ocean” event at the House of Norway in Brussels. The gathering brought together scientists, diplomats, European institutions, and the private sector to explore the complex issues surrounding ocean governance and sustainability.
Sponsored by the OACPS and organized by the University of Bergen, the event delved into the crucial role of science and diplomacy in addressing ocean-related challenges. MEP Catherine Chanaud shared her firsthand experiences from transatlantic solo expeditions, underscoring the importance of ocean conservation.
The discussions highlighted the significance of protecting marine habitats, combating illegal fishing, and promoting decarbonization in maritime transportation. As MEP Chanaud emphasized, there is a pressing need for Ocean Diplomacy, especially within the context of initiatives like the Green Deal.
The event served as a platform for collaborative dialogue and innovative solutions to ensure the sustainable management of our oceans for future generations. Ambassador Bazard reaffirmed The Bahamas’ commitment to ocean conservation and stressed the importance of international cooperation in achieving these goals.
