Ambassador H.E. Cheryl Bazard attended the prestigious Blue Leaders High-Level Event, hosted by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU at the Résidence Palace in Brussels.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice and the North Sea, Mr. Paul Van Tigchelt, extended a warm welcome to all participants, setting the stage for the insightful deliberations that followed.
The event served as a platform for critical discussions on key maritime issues, including the climate 30×30 pledge and the ratification of the BBNJ Agreement.
The keynote speech was presented by marine biologist, photographer and filmmaker Inka Cresswell. Expert insights were shared by notable figures in the field, featuring Ambassador Nancy Karigithu representing Kenya, Minister of the Sea Abraão Vicente from Cabo Verde, and Vidar Helgesen, Executive Secretary of IOC UNESCO.
The event concluded with closing remarks from His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. An informal high-level dinner followed, during which IMO Secretary-General Mr. Arsenio Dominguez delivered additional remarks.
