Press Release

Ambassador Bazard participated in a discussion on the impact of global crises on trade in the Global South, emphasizing the need for immediate solutions to high inflation, sovereign debt, and climate change challenges.

Ambassador Bazard attended a riveting discussion yesterday, sponsored by the Brussels Diplomatic Academy, Junior Lodge, and Ambassador Dr. Len Ishmael. The event, titled “Great Power Rivalry and Crises – Effects on Global Trade and the Global South – The Future of Trade in a Fragmenting World,” was held at the Brussels Press Club.

The discussion delved into critical issues such as high inflation, sovereign debt, and the existential threat of climate change, particularly focusing on their impact on productivity in countries of the Global South. These nations, heavily dependent on trade, are especially vulnerable to the fluctuations of the global economy.

Ambassador Dr. Len Ishmael emphasized the urgent need to address these challenges, not as mere perceptions, but as pressing problems requiring immediate solutions. The dialogue highlighted the link between global power dynamics and the economic stability of developing nations, underscoring the necessity for innovative strategies to mitigate adverse effects.

The event brought together thought leaders and policymakers to explore practical solutions aimed at enhancing the resilience of Global South economies. It was a call to action for collaborative efforts in addressing the multifaceted crises impacting global trade and the livelihoods of millions in the developing world.
