Press Release

The Embassy of Chile in Brussels celebrated the country’s Independence Day with a vibrant event, hosted by H.E. Ambassador Gloria Navarrete.

The Embassy of Chile hosted a lively celebration in Brussels in honor of Chile’s National Day, commemorating the country’s Independence Day. This annual event, held on September 18, marks the beginning of Chile’s path to independence from the Spanish Crown. Known as “the eighteenth,” the festivities are an integral part of Chilean culture and can last up to a week, filled with national pride, music, and food.

H.E. Ambassador Gloria Navarrete graciously welcomed diplomats, friends, and distinguished guests, including Ambassador H.E. Cheryl Bazard, who expressed her appreciation for the warm invitation.

In Chile, Independence Day is celebrated with fondas—large parties held in parks and open spaces, where people gather to enjoy barbeques, traditional drinks, and the cueca, Chile’s national dance. The event at the embassy echoed the festive atmosphere of these grand celebrations, highlighting Chile’s strong cultural identity.
