Press Release

At COP29 Azerbaijan, discussions on creating a future-ready international financial framework and enhancing partnerships with SIDS leaders highlighted the day’s focus on climate action and innovation.

The COP29 discussion today focused on innovative financial solutions and international collaboration to address the climate crisis. In the dynamic Climate Action Innovation Zone, discussions centered around Finance 2030 and the creation of an international financial framework designed to meet the challenges of our rapidly evolving climate landscape. Participants from across the globe explored practical strategies to ensure financing mechanisms are equitable, accessible, and capable of driving impactful climate action.

The agenda underscored the critical need to support vulnerable nations, particularly Small Island Developing States (SIDS), through tailored financial frameworks that enable resilience-building and adaptation to climate change. These discussions reaffirm the urgency of aligning financial systems with the sustainable development and climate resilience goals of the 21st century.

The day concluded with a prestigious dinner hosted by the Commonwealth in partnership with the COP29 Presidency. This gathering brought together SIDS leaders, offering a unique opportunity for high-level discussions in a collaborative and informal setting. The event highlighted the importance of unity and shared commitment in addressing the unique challenges faced by island nations while strengthening international partnerships for a sustainable future.

The dialogue and actions from today represent a significant step forward in achieving a more inclusive and effective climate finance system.
