Press Release

Ambassador H.E. Cheryl Bazard joined diplomatic officials and the Rwandan Embassy in Belgium to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, paying tribute to the victims and their families.

Today marks the solemn commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, a dark chapter in human history where an estimated 800,000 individuals, predominantly Tutsis, tragically lost their lives. This devastating event, fueled by a combination of deep-seated ethnic tensions and political strife, left an indelible scar on the collective consciousness of Rwanda and the world.

In honor of the victims and survivors, the diplomatic community united with the Rwandan Embassy in Belgium to pay heartfelt tribute to those who perished and the families who continue to bear the weight of unimaginable loss. Together, we pause to reflect on the profound impact of this tragedy and reaffirm our commitment to never forget the atrocities committed during those dark days.

As we remember the victims of the Rwandan genocide, we also recognize the resilience and strength of the Rwandan people in their journey towards healing and reconciliation. It is through remembrance, reflection, and collective action that we strive to build a world where such atrocities are never repeated.
