Press Release

The 27th OACPS SIDS Forum Meeting concludes, passing leadership from Cabo Verde to the Caribbean region, with The Bahamas assuming the Chair for 2024-2025.

Today, the 27th OACPS (Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States) SIDS (Small Island Developing States) Forum Meeting convened, heralding a significant transition in leadership within the organization. The meeting, in accordance with the provisions of the revised 2019 Georgetown Agreement, bid farewell to H.E. José Monteiro of Cabo Verde, who served with distinction as Coordinator. As his tenure concludes, the Caribbean Region assumes the Chairmanship, with The Bahamas representing the region for the term 2024-2025.

The transition comes at a crucial juncture as SIDS prepare for the forthcoming SIDS 4 Conference, where key initiatives and strategies will be deliberated to address pressing issues and drive progress. The Forum’s discussions underscore the dedication of SIDS to fostering cooperation, innovation, and solidarity in pursuit of shared goals.
